Track and Field to Travel to 38th John Jacobs Invitational

HOUSTON -- The University of Houston track and field team will continue the 2007 outdoor season when they travel to Norman, Okla., on Friday and Saturday for the 38th John Jacobs Invitational.
The meet hosted by the University of Oklahoma will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with the distance carnival. Races set to run on Friday include the 1,500 meters, 3,000-meter steeplechase, 800 meters and the 5,000-meter races.
Freshman Jessica Cook and senior Paul Goodwin are set to race in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Junior Oumama Hallal and freshman Nathan Trimble and Michael Malain will run in the 5,000-meter race.
Saturday's competition is scheduled to begin with the field events at 11 a.m. and the running events will begin at 1 p.m.
Senior Ebonie Floyd will be running in the 400 meters on Saturday. It will be the first time the Houston native will take part in the event this season. Floyd will also be running the third leg of the 4x100 relay team.
Also participating in Saturday's action will be freshman Ashley Bryant (discus), senior Tristian Whitley (high jump), junior Ivan Diggs (high jump), and freshman Alex Bentley (pole vault). All have qualified for the NCAA Regional.
Participants from Arkansas, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, Syracuse and Wyoming are set to compete on the John Jacobs Track and Field Complex.
After five meets this season the Cougars have qualified nine individuals or relay teams for the NCAA Regional in Des Moines, Iowa.
